Set Exercise 2
(17 Apr - 12 May 23)
Final Outcome
Identifying strengths and weaknesses

The main issue I faced at this point is how will my action plan be. After a lot of thinking, I decided on making it a journal in which I will document my everydays. This way I'm conquering my fear of analogue activities and getting a bit away from digital art. I also want to post my everyday page on Instagram as a digital journal.
As a start, I bought a 190-page sketchbook. For the cover of the book, I decided to add white paper cutouts on the front and back and a title, "Sarah's Art Journal". I don't want to set any specific style for the journal, that's why I'm keeping it plain and simple.

I've created an infographic (to the left) to plan out how each week will go in the summer. Every day will bring an artistic task as shown. I've taken it as a challenge upon myself to be creative every day. I also created a mini character of me which will appear throughout the book to keep up with the theme. Above is the title of the book, but it is in a different style than the cover.

Each page of the journal will have a heading that includes the day and the task. At first, I wrote the heading on every page of the journal, but it turned out sloppy and boring. I decided to make these headings using the same font in the infographic to connect it with the theme. The above images were printed and cut into strips to stick each one of them on each page. Using the calendar I showed at the top, I planned out and matched all the headings with their allocated days n the calendar.

Next, I made the mini-characters I mentioned with different styles and colours to give them a bit of variety. These minions will appear on pages to give hints or just be there.

Because I don't like books without chapters, I created these checkpoints. As shown above, they display the months mentioned in the calendar. To the far right is a reflection page that will be posted before the begining of the next month, so that the journal will address how I've improved.

In my infographic, I mentioned there will be an inspiration book. However, I found that when I'm travelling it will be too much to carry, and the journal still has a lot of empty pages at the end. So I decided I will be putting image collages of things I find interesting on these pages. Above are the 8 collages I've done so far. I will definitely be gluing anything I like at the back of the journal.
